Where it all began
Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1 July 1646 – 14 November 1716) was a German philosopher, polymath and mathematician who wrote primarily in Latin and French. Leibniz was fascinated by Chinese culture and was aware of I Ching. He realized that his two number system corresponded with the hexagrams of I Ching. This showed him that the Chinese had mathematical ideas and philosophies similar to the ones that intrigued him.
The First electronic computer was called the ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator) and was built in 1946 at the University of Pennsylvania. This was the first computer to use the Binary number system. It was easy to use because it consisted of ON and OFF which was easy to manage with electronic signals. This carried through all the way to the modern computers we use today. All electronic devices used today use the Binary number System.
During the same time period that Leibniz came up with the Binary Number System Leeuwenhoek discovered microorganisms. American settlers were rapidly expanding and making new settlements. They were also fighting with the Native Americans. The Habeaus Corpus Act was passed in England, strengthening person's right to challenge unlawful arrest & imprisonment. Also the Thirty Year War broke out in 1618 in Europe, it was fighting between Protestants and Catholics.
